Notable family:

Father Tom Morton is a freelance journalist, Labour councillor and former BBC Scotland radio presenter.

Mother Susan Bowie is an NHS GP, campaigner and Shetland Labour Party activist.

Politics:

Previously campaigned against Scottish Independence as part of ‘Better Together’ campaign. Current stance on independence: neutral.

Wide voting record with no current public commitment to any political party or organisation. Focus on health, health inequalities and climate issues. Centre-left leaning.

Controversies:

Publication of controversial poem in ‘Shetland: Cooking on the Edge of the World’. This, combined with claims made by co-author, provoked campaign against the book, received threats of violence; published extensive statement in Shetland Times with apology for offence.

Once messed up in a technical challenge on the Great Christmas Bake Off, but then saw what Chetna was doing so copied her. Still lost.
